ALTON — A Houston man was arrested following a Sunday morning raid at a house that held more than a dozen illegal immigrants, police said.

Alton police officers raided the house at Moorefield and 6 1/2 Mile roads about 9:30 a.m. Sunday, said Alton Police Chief Baldemar Flores.

The raid netted 18 people who lacked proper immigration documentation, Flores said.

An undercover officer who continued to survey the area after the raid saw a man in a pickup truck pull up to the house and go inside Sunday afternoon.

A patrol officer pulled over Victor Campuzano, 23, during a traffic stop after he left the house, Flores said. Four other illegal immigrants were inside the truck with him, police said.

All 22 undocumented immigrants were transferred to federal authorities pending deportation, Flores said.

Authorities seized three pickups during the raid and traffic stop that were registered to a rental company at George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, police said.

Campuzano, of Houston, was arraigned Tuesday in Alton Municipal Court and given a $10,000 bond.
