Homebuilder Calls Immigration Raids "Federal Abuse"

Well-known local homebuilder Henry Fischer has some choice words for the federal justice system. Fisher is so upset about immigration raids involving his company three years ago, he's collaborated on a book about it.

Fischer, his attorney and the book's author appeared Thursday afternoon at the Mercantile Library in downtown Cincinnati. They call the 2006 search warrants executed on his job sites and offices "federal abuse".

Dozens of illegal immigrants working on the sites were deported and three subcontractors plead guilty to immigration charges. Indictments against four Fischer employees were eventually dropped.

Henry Fischer: "The only reason for doing this is to bring more to the light of day, the problems in our federal justice system. We have serious problems in our federal justice system that need to be analyzed and the people in power aren't inclined to change it."

Federal prosecutors never named Fischer homes as a target of their investigation. However, they raided Fischer job sites multiple times.

All of the people who pleaded guilty in the case were either sub-contractors who worked for Fischer or workers employed by the sub-contractors. None of them was a direct Fischer employee.
