COLUMBUS — More than 200 leaders and members of diverse faith traditions will gather on the South Lawn of the Ohio Statehouse on Wednesday, Sept. 10, to pray for immigrant families who have been torn apart by immigration raids across the Midwest.

They will call on the government to stop these raids and deportations, and urge policy makers to enact humane, just immigration reform.

The recent increase in immigration raids, throughout the region, including one in Cleveland on July 23 of this year that arrested 68 people, is leaving whole communities devastated and creating fear and pain for immigrant families, leaders of the vigil said in a release.

Leaders will come together to pray for healing and reconciliation, to highlight God's call to "welcome the stranger among us," and to call for just immigration policies that honor the humanity of all people, the release said.

Among those the vigil will be the Rev. Josh Colon of Princeton Pike Church of God in Hamilton, according to the release.

The vigil is sponsored by Faith Communities Uniting for Peace and The Ohio Council of Churches.
